Chapter 2
When Adalia stepped outside, she noticed that it had snowed the whole time she was dancing. She wondered how she would get home until she saw the roads were clear and ice free. Adalia grabbed her bike, and started riding towards home. The minute Adalia returned home, she smelled the toast burning in the toaster, the smoke of the cigars from her next door neighbors, and the cleaners from her step-mom’s hired maid. She entered the beautiful 3 story mansion, located in Beverly Hills with marble floors, expensive furniture, high ceilings, and exquisite decorations. Her step-mother, Katherine, was gone for a business meeting in New York City. The only other family Adalia lives with is her step sisters and brothers, Grayson who is 5 years old, Lucas who is 7 years old, and Tommy who is 6 years old. Adailia is 14 and the only one in her family that is homeschooled. Her real mother died when she was 3, so her dad re-married immediately and left his family 4 years later.
Adalia went straight up to her room and looked in her secret box that she had been keeping from Katherine her whole life. The box contained pictures of her and her mother, $200 in cash, a necklace that belonged to her mother, and a CD of Adalia’s favorite songs to dance to. Adalia knew how hard it was to earn $200, so she was prepared to bake mass amounts of cookies and shovel tons of snow-filled driveways. Before you know it, cookie sale and snow shoveling posters were posted everywhere. Days went by, driveways were shoveled, cookies were sold, and money was made. Adalia made up to $150 in just one week.
