The Tale of a Superlative Dancer

Chapter 2

When Adalia stepped outside, she noticed that it had snowed the whole time she was dancing. She wondered how she would get home until she saw the roads were clear and ice free. Adalia grabbed her bike, and started riding towards home. The minute Adalia returned home, she smelled the toast burning in the toaster, the smoke of the cigars from her next door neighbors, and the cleaners from her step-mom’s hired maid. She entered the beautiful 3 story mansion, located in Beverly Hills with marble floors, expensive furniture, high ceilings, and exquisite decorations. Her step-mother, Katherine, was gone for a business meeting in New York City. The only other family Adalia lives with is her step sisters and brothers, Grayson who is 5 years old, Lucas who is 7 years old, and Tommy who is 6 years old. Adailia is 14 and the only one in her family that is homeschooled. Her real mother died when she was 3, so her dad re-married immediately and left his family 4 years later.

Adalia went straight up to her room and looked in her secret box that she had been keeping from Katherine her whole life. The box contained pictures of her and her mother, $200 in cash, a necklace that belonged to her mother, and a CD of Adalia’s favorite songs to dance to. Adalia knew how hard it was to earn $200, so she was prepared to bake mass amounts of cookies and shovel tons of snow-filled driveways. Before you know it, cookie sale and snow shoveling posters were posted everywhere. Days went by, driveways were shoveled, cookies were sold, and money was made. Adalia made up to $150 in just one week.

The Tale of a Superlative Dancer

Chapter 1

Her curly strawberry-blonde locks of hair bounced as she danced her heart out on the worn-out hard wood floor. She spun with finesse as the expression on her flawless face became one with the music. Her movements flowed as she danced with grace around the studio. Her long legs were straight as though she had no knees. The magic came to an end as the teacher excitedly barged through the door. “You are a magnificent dancer and I must have you attend my classes!” The surprised young miss was speechless and was highly embarrassed by the fact that the tall, thin dance teacher had been watching her this whole time. “What’s your name?” the dance instructor asked. “Adalia Grove.” She answered astonished. “I understand you are surprised, but I really want you to come to the dance classes that I instruct.” “I don’t know what to say. I would love to atten -” Adalia froze in the middle of her sentence; for she had remembered her dreadfully unpleasant step-mother. “Actually, I can’t, but thank you for the offer.” She started to miserably walk towards her bag with a tear in her eye. “But there must be some sort of explanation! I may not know much about you, and you may not know much about me, but what I do know, is that when I was watching you dance, my heart stopped. A dancer like you should definitely be attending some sort of dance classes! There is always room for improvement, my mother would always say.” Adalia pondered on how she could take up classes and hide it from her step-mother. As she wiped the tear from her eye, she asked the dance instructor, “If I can have your name and some contact information written on a piece of paper, I will get back with you as soon as I can. It might take some time because I have to come up with the money. How much is it?” “I can make an exception and give you a discount, but I can’t afford to let you in for free, especially now; so 12 classes in 1 month would be a total of $300 including the discount. I have to go to the office and write down my contact information. I will be right back.” The dance teacher answered as she left the room. Adalia was dumbfounded by the cost of the classes. She wondered anxiously as to how she was to come up with the money, when the teacher entered the room. “Here’s my contact information, my name is Rose Rockenberg, but you can call me Miss Rose.” Adalia thanked Miss Rose, took the paper, grabbed her things, put on her winter clothes, and left the old building.
